The iguana sat motionless, digging its claws into the plastic. It watched the sunset, as if enjoying the cruise. It looked like a cartoon scene, but this was reality.
Steve couldn’t believe how much this wild creature trusted a human. It understood that this strange guy on a boat was its only hope.
When the mangroves appeared on the horizon, the iguana perked up. It recognized home. It started inching closer to the edge of the boat.
Steve pulled up right next to the trees. “Alright buddy, we’re here,” he said. The iguana didn’t hesitate for a second. It made one final leap.
It splashed into the water near the roots and instantly scrambled up a branch. Steve turned the kayak around to make sure it was okay.
He saw its silhouette among the leaves. It was holding on tight, never wanting to let go again. It was saved.
